How much does it cost to move a piano in Seattle?

Every piano move in Seattle is quoted individually, so we don't publish prices. The type and weight of the piano, the number of steps at each address, the walk from the truck to the door, tight turns and the distance between homes all shape your quote. Call or text +1 206-203-4999 for a free, no-obligation quote.
What shapes a Seattle piano quote
PianoApprox. weightWhat we look at for your quote
Spinet / console300–400 lbCompact but top-heavy. The step count and tight turns matter most.
Upright / studio400–800 lbMoves in one piece on a board; long stair runs and narrow doorways add crew time.
Baby grand500–650 lbLegs, lyre and pedals come off; the case rides on its side on a piano board.
Grand / concert grand650–1,200+ lbA longer case needs more turning room and an extra set of hands.
Digital & player pianosVariesElectronics and player mechanisms get extra padding and stay upright when required.

Upright vs. grand piano moves: what's different?

An upright moves in one piece, standing on a padded dolly or strapped to a board. A grand is partly disassembled: the legs, lyre and pedals come off and the case travels on its side on a piano board. Grands need more room to turn, more hands and more planning on stairs.

How do we move your piano?

We measure the route, protect the floors and frames, wrap the piano, take a grand off its legs, strap it to a piano board, control it on every step, tie it down in the truck and set it back up in the new room. Nothing is rushed and nothing is dragged.

1

Measure the Route

We check doorways, stair width and turns at both homes before anything moves.

2

Protect the Home

Floor runners, door-jamb pads and blankets go down on floors, frames and railings.

3

Wrap the Piano

Thick moving blankets cover the case, keys and lid, secured with padded straps.

4

Remove Legs (Grands)

Grand legs, lyre and pedals are removed and labeled so they go back exactly right.

5

Board & Strap

The piano is strapped to a padded piano board or a heavy-duty piano dolly.

6

Stairs With Control

On stairs the crew moves one step at a time, with a mover on the low side.

7

Load & Tie Down

A ramp or lift gate gets it into the truck, where it is tied down upright or on its side.

8

Reassemble & Place

Legs go back on, the piano is set exactly where you want it and checked.

Can you move a piano on Seattle's hills and stairs?

Yes. Seattle is built on hills, and many homes sit above the street with long exterior staircases or below it with a steep driveway. We count the steps, plan where the truck can park and bring the right boards, straps and crew size, so the piano is controlled the whole way.
⛰️

Queen Anne & the Counterbalance

The steep blocks around Queen Anne Avenue and the homes above the street mean long climbs. We plan for the grade, not just the stairs.

🏘️

Capitol Hill & Magnolia

Older homes with porches, narrow entries and tight turns. We measure first and protect the woodwork on the way in.

🪜

West Seattle & Phinney Ridge

Hillside lots with 30 or more exterior steps are common. The crew rotates and moves the piano one step at a time.

🏢

SLU, Belltown & Downtown

Condo towers mean a freight elevator reservation, the building's move hours and a certificate of insurance. We plan around all three.

🚚

Ballard, Fremont & Wallingford

Narrow streets and alleys. We plan the truck spot ahead, and some blocks need a temporary no-parking zone.

🌧️

Rainy-season moves

From October to April the piano gets a water-resistant wrap, and wet steps and decks get runners and extra care.

Why not move a piano yourself?

Because a piano is heavy, top-heavy and fragile at the same time. Even a small upright can weigh 400 pounds, and most of that weight sits high. One slip on a stair can crack the case, damage the soundboard, gouge the floor or hurt the people carrying it.

Should you tune your piano after a move?

Yes, but not right away. Let the piano sit in its new room for two to three weeks so the wood and strings can adjust to the temperature and humidity, then book a piano technician. Pacific Northwest air is damp much of the year, so placement matters too.
⏳

Wait 2–3 Weeks

A piano tuned the day after a move usually drifts as it settles. Give it time to acclimate first.

💧

Mind the Humidity

Pianos are happiest around 40–50% relative humidity. Damp Seattle winters and dry heated rooms both stress the wood.

🪟

Choose the Spot

Keep the piano away from windows, heating vents, fireplaces and outside walls where it can.

🔧

Book a Technician

After the settling period, a local piano technician can tune it and check the action and pedals.

Piano movers serving Seattle & the Eastside

Every area moves a little differently. Here's what piano moves look like around Puget Sound.

📍

Seattle

From the Counterbalance on Queen Anne to the stair-step lots of Phinney Ridge and the condo towers of South Lake Union, Seattle piano moves are about stairs, hills and building rules. We plan each one around the step count and the truck spot.

📍

Bellevue

Bellevue moves often mean a grand piano going into a daylight-basement home in Somerset or a high-rise near Bellevue Square. We protect the long hallways and finished floors, and we work with your building on elevator time.

📍

Redmond

Redmond piano moves often mean townhomes with tight interior stairs or family homes on Education Hill. Uprights usually go up the stairs on a board; grands are planned room by room.

📍

Kirkland

Kirkland's waterfront condos and hillside homes above Lake Washington call for careful truck placement and a plan for the slope. We handle the walk from the street and protect your entry.

📍

Mercer Island

Mercer Island piano moves cross I-90 and often end in larger homes with formal living rooms and grand pianos. We take the time to set the piano exactly where you want it.

📍

Sammamish

Sammamish homes on the plateau tend to be large, with bonus rooms and basements. Moving a piano between floors in the same house is a job we're glad to take on.

📍

Issaquah

From the Issaquah Highlands to the hillside streets near Squak Mountain, Issaquah piano moves often involve sloped driveways. We use the right ramps and boards so the climb stays controlled.

📍

Bothell

Bothell sits on the line between King and Snohomish counties, and many of its split-level homes put the living room up a half flight of stairs. Short stair runs still get the full board-and-strap treatment.

📍

Shoreline

Shoreline's mid-century ramblers and the steep streets near Richmond Beach make for very different piano moves. We look at photos of your entry before move day so the crew arrives ready.

📍

Everett

Everett piano moves range from older homes in the north end to new townhomes and church halls. Narrow porches and older doorways are measured before the piano leaves the truck.

📍

Tacoma

Tacoma's older Craftsman homes have porches, steps and tight doorways that suit uprights and test grands. We plan the route through the house, not just the drive down I-5.

📍

Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island piano moves are timed around the ferry from downtown Seattle. We plan the crossing, the drive on the island and the access at your home before we load.

Common questions

Every piano move is quoted individually, so we don't publish prices. The quote depends on the type of piano, how many steps there are at each address, the walk from the truck to the door, tight turns and the distance between homes. Call or text +1 206-203-4999 for a free quote.
Yes. Grands come off their legs, lyre and pedals, go on their side on a padded piano board and are strapped down before they ever touch a step. Long Seattle stair runs, including exterior stairs on hillside lots, are exactly what our crews plan for. Tell us the step count when you call.
Yes. In South Lake Union, Belltown, Downtown and Capitol Hill buildings we work around the freight elevator reservation, the building's move hours and its certificate of insurance (COI) request. Send us the building's move-in rules when you book and we'll plan the move around them.
Most single-piano moves take one to three hours on site plus drive time. A spinet on a ground floor is quick; a grand going up a long exterior staircase or through a busy condo freight elevator takes longer. We give you a time window when we confirm your date.
Wolves Pack Movers is fully insured, and we're happy to explain the coverage when you call. If your building asks for a certificate of insurance before move day, send us its requirements when you book so the paperwork is ready.
Yes, but wait. Give the piano two to three weeks to adjust to the temperature and humidity of its new room before you book a tuner. Tuning it the day after the move usually means tuning it again a few weeks later.
Only what is designed to come off. On a grand we remove the legs, the lyre and the pedals, then wrap the case and move it on its side on a piano board. Uprights move in one piece. Everything is reassembled and checked in the new room.
Yes. Island moves are planned around the Washington State Ferries schedule, and Mercer Island moves go over I-90. Let us know the island address when you call so we can plan the crossing, the drive time and the access at the home.
Yes. Moving a piano to another room, to the basement or up to the main floor is a very common request. The piano is wrapped and moved with the same boards and straps as a full move.
A few days to a week is ideal, and condo moves need enough time to reserve the freight elevator. When the schedule allows we can also do next-day or same-day piano moves, so call or text +1 206-203-4999 and ask.
