Why do pool tables have to be taken apart?

Because the slate is heavy and brittle. A slate pool table weighs roughly 600 to 1,000 lb, and most of that is stone. Carried assembled, the table can crack the slate, loosen the frame and damage your doorways, so we take it down to its parts and move each one safely.

How do we move your pool table?

We remove the pockets, rails and felt, take out the slate and wrap each piece, carry the slate on edge on dollies, rebuild the frame in the new room, set and seal the slate, level it and put the felt and rails back on. Every part is labeled.

1

Pockets & Rails Off

Pockets and rails are removed and labeled so they go back in the same spots.

2

Felt Removed

Staples are pulled carefully so the felt can be reused when it's in good shape.

3

Slate Out & Wrapped

Each slate piece is unscrewed, lifted out and wrapped in blankets.

4

Frame & Legs

The frame and legs come apart and are padded for the truck.

5

Slate on Edge

Slate travels on edge on dollies, never flat, to prevent cracks.

6

Rebuild & Seal

The frame is rebuilt, the slate set and the seams filled and smoothed.

7

Level

The playing surface is leveled in both directions before the felt goes on.

8

Felt & Rails

Felt is stretched and stapled, rails and pockets go back on and it's ready to play.

Why do leveling and felt matter so much?

Because they decide how the table plays. A table that's slightly off level makes balls roll off their line, and loose or wrinkled cloth makes them bounce and slow down. That's why we level the slate before the felt goes on and stretch the cloth evenly.
📐

Level in Both Directions

We check the slate across its length and width, then again after the rails go on.

🪨

Smooth Seams

On three-piece slate the seams are filled and smoothed so balls roll straight across them.

🧵

Worsted vs. Woolen

Worsted cloth is smooth and fast; woolen cloth has a nap and plays slower. We reinstall your cloth the way it's meant to lie.

🔧

Tight, Even Felt

The cloth is stretched evenly and stapled so the bed stays flat and the cushions play true.

Which pool table brands do you move?

We move slate pool tables from every major maker, from classic Brunswick tables to modern Olhausen and coin-operated Valley tables. If you know the brand and size, tell us when you call; it helps us plan the slate and the crew.

Can you move a pool table into a basement or bonus room?

Yes. In Seattle many pool tables end up in craftsman basements with steep stairs, and on the Eastside in bonus rooms over the garage. Because the table moves in pieces, each piece fits the stairs; we measure the turns and protect the walls first.
🏚️

Craftsman Basements

Low ceilings and a tight turn at the bottom of the stairs. We plan the path for each slate piece.

🏡

Eastside Bonus Rooms

Narrow stairs over the garage. The slate goes up one piece at a time, on edge.

🔄

Tight Turns

Hallways and landings are measured before move day so nothing gets stuck halfway.

What size room do you need for a pool table?

With standard 58-inch cues you need about five feet of clear space on every side of the playing surface. That works out to about 13 by 16 feet for a 7-foot table, 13 feet 6 inches by 17 feet for an 8-foot table and 14 by 18 feet for a 9-foot table.

Table sizePlaying surfaceRoom size with 58" cues
7 ftAbout 39" × 78"About 13' × 16'
8 ftAbout 44" × 88"About 13'6" × 17'
9 ftAbout 50" × 100"About 14' × 18'

Shorter 48–52 inch cues work in smaller rooms. Measure from wall to wall, minus furniture and doors that swing in.

Excellent experience! They were good at communicating, arrived on time with everything exactly as expected, and were careful with our belongings throughout the move. … they were gracious and stayed two hours longer than I had reserved to ensure everything got done. I would use them again!

Pool table movers serving Seattle & Puget Sound

Every home is different. Here's what pool table moves look like around Seattle.

📍

Seattle

Seattle pool tables often live in craftsman basements in Wallingford, Ballard and Ravenna, reached by steep, narrow stairs. Because the table moves in pieces, the stairs are manageable; we measure the turn at the bottom first.

📍

Bellevue

Bellevue homes put pool tables in finished basements and large game rooms. We protect the long walk through the house and level the table on the floor it will live on.

📍

Redmond

Redmond pool tables often live in bonus rooms over the garage or in basements on Education Hill. Bonus-room stairs are narrow, so the slate pieces go up one at a time.

📍

Kirkland

Kirkland moves often mean a table going from a downtown condo into a family home, or into a lower-level game room in a hillside house above the lake.

📍

Sammamish

Sammamish homes have the space for 8- and 9-foot tables in basements and media rooms. Big tables mean heavy slate, so we bring the crew to match.

📍

Issaquah

Issaquah pool table moves often involve daylight basements and sloped driveways. We carry the slate on edge on dollies, not flat, to keep it safe.

📍

Mercer Island

Mercer Island pool table moves cross I-90. We label every rail, pocket and leg so the table goes back together exactly as it came apart.

📍

Renton

Renton pool table moves run between homes in the Renton Highlands and Kennydale, and from private sellers to buyers across town.

📍

Bothell

Bothell split-level homes often put the game room half a flight down. Short stairs are still stairs, and the slate gets the same careful handling.

📍

Everett

Everett pool tables often go into garages turned game rooms or older homes with basements. Garage floors are rarely level, so leveling matters even more.

📍

Tacoma

Many older Tacoma homes have basements with low ceilings. We plan the route for each slate piece and rebuild the table level on the old concrete.

📍

Kent

Kent pool table moves run from valley-floor ramblers to East Hill homes with lower-level rec rooms. We protect the stairs and bring enough hands for the slate.

Common questions

Every pool table move is quoted individually, so we don't publish prices. The table size, one-piece or three-piece slate, stairs at either address, the distance between homes and the condition of the felt all shape the quote. Call or text +1 206-203-4999 for a free quote.
Yes. A slate pool table weighs roughly 600 to 1,000 lb, and most of that is the slate. Moving it assembled can crack the slate, rack the frame and damage your home, so we take it apart, move each piece separately and rebuild it.
Most moves take about three to five hours from start to finish: disassembly, loading, the drive, reassembly and leveling. Stairs, one-piece slate and long drives add time. We give you a time window when we confirm the date.
Yes. Leveling is part of every move. After the slate is set and the seams are filled, we level the playing surface in both directions before the felt goes back on, then check it again with the rails installed.
Felt in good condition can often be reused when it was stapled and comes off cleanly. Old, worn or glued felt usually tears and needs replacing. Tell us the age and condition of your cloth when you call and we'll tell you what to expect.
Yes. A one-piece slate is a single heavy slab, so it takes more crew and more planning on stairs and turns than a three-piece slate. Tell us which kind you have when you call so we can bring the right crew.
Yes. Basements are where many Seattle pool tables live. Because the table travels in pieces, each piece is manageable on the stairs; we measure the turns and protect the treads and walls first.
Yes. Moving a table to another room or another floor still means taking it apart, moving the slate safely and leveling it again in the new spot. It's a very common request.
With standard 58-inch cues, plan on about 13 by 16 feet for a 7-foot table, 13 feet 6 inches by 17 feet for an 8-foot table and 14 by 18 feet for a 9-foot table. Shorter cues can work in smaller rooms.
Yes. Shuffleboard tables, game tables and arcade machines are heavy-item moves we handle too. Send us the make and length, or a photo, and we'll plan it the same way as a pool table move.
